The marketplace

A place for everything

Marketplaces in Ivory Coast are a display of colour, noise and smells – from the delicious and interesting, to the foul.

As explained in the video, women come here to do their shopping and get food for their families. So many foodstuffs are found here, such as aubergines, tomatoes, potatoes, cassava, dried fish and live chickens.

You can also buy rubber – it looks strange, but it's used for making shoes, car parts and much more.

The dried fish may not look appealing to everyone, but it makes a good meal for many Ivorian families.
