The Great Rift Valley is famous for its spectacular views and scenery. It stretches for thousands of miles from Northern Syria to central Mozambique.
It is home to towering, snow-capped mountains and a series of 30 or more lakes which lie along its length.
Home to the Maasai
The Great Rift Valley is also home to the Maasai people, a group who live a nomadic lifestyle. They move from place to place, herding their livestock, such as cattle, from pasture to pasture.
The Maasai tribe are among the most well known of ethnic tribes in Kenya, mainly because of their height, distinctive customs and dress. Historically they were known for their fearsome reputations as warriors and cattle-rustlers.
