A thick creamy butter for your body
Women in Africa and across the world buy creams and moisturizers with shea butter. This natural ingredient helps to keep skin soft and supple. It's also used by some to smooth and condition hair.
In the video, the women who sell shea butter show where the ingredient comes from; it’s made from the nuts of karité trees.
The oil-rich nuts from the trees are roasted and pounded with a little water. This produces a mixture which looks like melted chocolate and oozes oil. The oil is then ladled off. When cool, it's cream in colour and has the consistency of butter. Voila! We have shea butter.
