Filming in Senegal
Videos in this website have been put together by children living in and around SOS Children’s Villages. They’ve captured their thoughts, opinions and ideas to present a new perspective on Africa through their own eyes. The result is this evolving ‘Our Africa’ educational resource.
SOS Children has been working in Senegal since 1977. There are currently four Children’s Villages in Senegal. Find out more about SOS children in Senegal.
Apart from making videos for this resource, each group of young people has made its own short film (sometimes more than one) on subjects that matter to them. Each film reveals quite a lot about their lives, their life experiences and their aspirations for their future.
This is what the children came up with:
Team A - La mendicité (Begging)
The team act out what happens to Pierre when his mother dies. Against his will he has to start begging for a living, and this has serious consequences for his future life…
Team B - La violence (Violence)
The team act out a ‘Cinderella’ story – a girl whose mother has died has to cope with abuse from her new stepmother, but luckily her father finds out what is going on, and an SOS Children’s Village can provide a new home for her!
