Videos on this website have been made with the help of youngsters living in and around SOS Children’s Villages, to create this evolving ‘Our Africa’ educational resource. On this page, we present short films the children have produced by themselves. The children choose their own subjects, which reveal something of their lives, opinions and ideas. This is Africa through their eyes.
SOS Children has been working in Zimbabwe since 1983, when the first village was set up in Bindura. Since then, two more Children’s Villages have been founded, in Waterfalls and Bulawayo.
Here are two of the films produced by children living at SOS Children's Village in Zimbabwe.
Zero to Hero
Godfrey has always been interested in music. The video shows Godfrey’s real-life story, how he was desperate to learn the marimba from a young age. This has proved an inspiration in his life and now he’s studying music. But his story is not yet finished – one day, we may see Godfrey’s name in lights.
Lesson from a madman
The children were eager to shoot this morality tale. The filming itself was much harder work than they expected, requiring numerous takes for some scenes. But when they saw the finished video, the children were pleased they’d persevered and rightly proud of their powerful story.
