Growing up

A little support goes a long way

Patrick is 18 years old. He lives with his cousin’s sister, Shamiso, who is 13. Both have lost their parents and so Patrick and Shamiso have a hard time living on their own.

Their grandfather comes once a month to bring them supplies. But normally, this food only lasts till the middle of the month. In the video, Patrick explains to Godfrey how he and Shamiso survive for the rest of the time.

But he’s thankful that Shamiso is able to go to school, with financial help from the SOS Family Strengthening Programme. This support means that at least Patrick doesn’t have to worry about Shamiso getting an education. And Patrick’s clearly pleased that she’s doing much better at school than he managed.
