The creation of an instrument
Godfrey visits Robert Muuya, who is a marimba teacher. The marimba is a type of wooden xylophone.
Robert not only teaches people how to play the marimba, he also makes the instruments and repairs them. In his workshop, he shows Godfrey how the marimba is made.
Find out how long it takes Robert to make a typical marimba – assuming he has all the materials – and how he gets the notes to the right pitch.
At the end of their talk, Robert plays for Godfrey, who is himself a marimba player. See Godfrey’s story in ‘Zero to Hero’ in Children’s Tales.
