The new Nigeria

In 2010 Nigeria, celebrated its 50th anniversary of being an independent country. People felt the country was embracing a new age and should distance itself from certain old ways.

Young people know these elements give their country a bad image abroad and they want to see change. They want to be part of a new Nigeria – or Naija – to be proud of their nation.

For young Nigerians, the term ‘Naija’ means a break from the old ways of the past, a new beginning and hope for the future.
